About Barry Petrea

Founder of Lowcountry LifeScan

Barry Petrea is the Founder of Lowcountry LifeScan and a longtime advocate for the power of early detection to save lives. Having grown up in the Savannah and Hilton Head area, Barry is deeply committed to bringing advanced preventive health services to the community he has always called home.

Before launching Lowcountry LifeScan, Barry served as Chief Operating Officer of Virtual Imaging in Atlanta, where he helped expand access to low-dose CT scans focused on early detection of heart disease, cancer, and aneurysms. Through that work, he saw firsthand how identifying disease early, often before symptoms appear, can dramatically change outcomes and give patients peace of mind. His mission now is to bring that same level of care, technology, and accessibility to families across the Lowcountry.
Barry’s passion for serving others is rooted in his upbringing. He comes from a family with a long history of public service, including his father, who served as Mayor of Thunderbolt for more than 25 years. That legacy instilled in him a deep respect for community, trust, and doing what’s right for the people around you.
With more than 15 years of experience in healthcare and operations, Barry combines clinical access, operational excellence, and a patient-first mindset to make preventive imaging simple, affordable, and approachable. He believes everyone deserves the opportunity to take control of their health through early detection, and he’s proud to bring that mission back to the community that shaped him.
